Privacy Policy

Sand Chemistry is a teaching tool for organic chemistry. This page
explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do not do
with it.
What we collect
-
Google profile data, when you sign in. Your name,
email address, profile picture, and a Google-issued user identifier
(
sub). Google sign-in is optional. The site works
without it.
-
Chemistry inputs. The SMILES strings, reaction
questions, and feedback you submit are sent to our backend for
prediction and caching. We may store them to improve the service
and avoid re-asking the upstream model for the same reaction.
-
Usage analytics. We record which tabs you visit
and which reactions you predict in aggregate, so we can prioritise
reaction families that students actually use. We do not record
keystrokes or mouse movements.
-
Local storage on your device. Your saved
reactions, quiz progress, and preferences are stored in your
browser. They are not synced to our servers today.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your data with advertisers.
-
We do not use your Google profile for anything other than
identifying you when you return to the site.
Third-party services
Predictions are produced by IBM RXN for Chemistry. Your inputs are
sent to IBM's API to generate the prediction. Sign-in is provided by
Google Identity. Hosting is provided by Railway (backend) and Vercel
(frontend). Each service has its own privacy policy.
Children's privacy
Sand Chemistry is built for college-level chemistry students and is
not directed at children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes
a child has signed in, please contact us and we will remove the
account.
Your choices
-
You can use Sand Chemistry without signing in. Your settings and
saved reactions will live only in your browser.
-
You can sign out at any time from the Account page. We do not
delete your saved reactions when you sign out, because they live
in your browser.
-
To request deletion of any data we hold tied to your Google
account, email hello@sandchemistry.com.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date
at the top of this page and, for signed-in users, surface a notice
on next sign-in.
